Halfway there. I decided not to re-draw, and just use as is! I have 50 billion thumbnails (well actually about 50 ) that I drew for new pieces, new compositions, new dynamics! :) will be using more for newer stuffs. I just figured my inprogress would be alot more interesting than my sketch book (which has really turned into a "SKETCH" book lately... or more of an idea book at least!).

Right as I was leaving for work this morning, I go to grab my bag and see this...! So on the train ride, I decided I NEEDED to draw it! It was so surreal.. like i was looking through the cat... some kind of weird sign maybe? haha...

And above you'll see 3 reasons why I LOVE Prospect Park. I decided to leave out the photo of my bloody knee... (you're welcome! ) I love the bike paths there! Too much fun! ... as well there's also a picture of Taco (dog) and Gyoza (cat) falling asleep during one of their nightly staring contests.... (yes they really do this every night...!)

here's a sketch i did today during lunch... decided i'd color it and see what came about! I'm not so sure about the new piece i started, though... i think maybe the lines are a bit too thick... i'm going to re-draw it... Went to the bookstore today, and saw all the winners for all those magazine contest things (like applied arts, cmyk, ect..) it really... makes me feel down!! :( oh well... at least what i do makes me happy, and i guess thats the only thing that matters!

I think i'm going to start working traditionally again... traditionally huge! I was thinking about some of the artwork I had been doing about 4 years ago... it used to be HUGE! i miss that... so.. my next drawing i think will be a MINIMUM of 4x4 feet... just to get back into the feel of making large art... :)

also! I'm kinda excited about a project i'm doing at work!! I'm helping to illustrate a book that they're publishing... yay! Although it isn't really my style (vectory, realisticy) i guess you can kinda see my taste coming through!! :) updates on it later!

time for a trip to the art store! :)

These are the things that help me get by in my day to day life... I love my sketchbook *huggles*... always there through the good and the bad! (more so during the bad!) A diary of my ups and downs, and subconscious perhaps? I've got several ideas for new pieces, as you can probably tell! :) I've been listening /watching too many old Garbage / Cardigans music videos... I have to say my favorite videos have to be "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage, and the Cardigans' "Carnival". Music has always been a very big influence on my work, and I think it will always show up in my drawings!

I know i wanted to finish this a while back, but... life stresses have really put me off. A loss of someone special, combined with moving to a new area... very overwhelming! Also... the subject matter of these recent pieces are really too close to the things that were going on in my own life... so i avoided finishing it for a while now. but THANKFULLY, i'm finally back on track and here's a preview...

I really need to go find my scanner... i have a ton of sketchbook things to post! I saw the Murakami exhibit as well (since i live right next to the museum) ...with my MOM...which was the weirdest thing ever (she said she could handle the explict sexuality/nudity part but... it was an attempt at least!--although she did like the Luis Vuitton handbags...).

I'd really like to see my illustrations on clothes... so to get a better idea, i found some (random) clothes on google, and put my images on them... *sigh*.... I know its just a daydream, but I have to figure out how to make this a reality. If any clothing designers out there are interested in collaborating... lol well you know... let me know? :) I'd love to make some artwork for you!

...on a side note... I'm moving to Brooklyn!! I'll be right next to the museum, botanical gardens, and PARK! *hugs nature* I'm so excited! :)

Bohemia - Finished!

Finally got some time to sit down and finish coloring this! Originally the guy in the bg was supposed to be coming out of the background, but instead i muted him a bit and flattened him out to make him seem more 2-dimensional... Its supposed to be a sort of ethereal dream-world.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Went to the MET this weekend! ...and on my way explored Central Park a bit...

Why are the squirrels there so fat?? They're about the same size of the pigeons around here!! I just happened to walk by one that I thought was dead, but then jumped up and sat there breathing really hard!! I think perhaps it had a heart attack from too much junk food...

I also started customizing some tote bags (not finished!)-- that will be added to the store section in a bit. They're fairly large totes, good for carrying tons of stuff!

Bohemia - Sketch Stage

... After spending a week reading and sketching I finally started on the piece below. I wanted to use the theme of 'marriage' for this one... Originally it was going to be a very surreal flat 2-d environment, but I decided that I use that solution much too often, and it would be best to try to develop this background a bit more... The pictures are kinda blurry--I used my phone to take them ( the dim lighting did not help either...)

I've been looking at alot of Autumn Whitehurst and Jim Flora's work, I'd really like to use some flat color contrasted with rendered parts in the coloring stage of the drawing. Anyway, It's about 20% done-- alot of drawing left to do!

I think for this one, I wanted to use clothes that were already made...and modify the outfits so that they were different enough from the original to be a completely new outfit. Now that I look at the patterns in this, it reminds me of a beach wrap that I had bought myself a few years ago. (although I was thinking more of old metal gate patterns that you would see on fences when drawing it)

I finally decided what I wanted to get myself for my birthday ( a month off-- but its okay to prepare!! :) ) One of these or even these guys would be so cute to add to my collection!! The outfits are so adorable!

1950's cookbooks and a fashion sketch

So.. I've been sketching alot this past week trying to think of some new compositions/ different ways of creating my sexy ladies... and i finally did one i really liked, so i decided to start on it.

I also scanned a few samples from some cookbooks owned by my great grandmother... they seem to be mostly advertisements, but nonetheless, still really cool to look at! Mostly from the 1950's 1960's... ohhh i have to go look for more of her stuff!! My grandma has a few more cookbooks from her that i didn't get to keep (one of them had the COOLEST illustrations about how to carve beef, and what each part of the cow could be used for... and all the cows looked so happy in the drawings!)

I love this little guy!! I'm not sure why he has glasses on.. but maybe i missed something in the recipe....

I know its been a while since I've posted any new work, so here are some doodles from my sketchbook...

I've been looking at alot of art/reading alot about the business of art... Mostly The Business Side of Creativity, 6 Steps to Free Publicity, and other awesome freelance business links (Keri Smith, Creatively Self-Employed) from Meg. (Thank you so much, Meg!!)

I also got this SUPER cute book The Little Big Book of Dogs which has been such an inspiration! It's filled with a bunch of memoirs to dogs of the past, and stuffed with tons of 1940's and 50's drawings, prints, and paintings of dogs!! Definitely pick it up if you are a huge fan of furry things, and 1950's illustrations. (I found it in the bargain section of B&N for $6!! )

Another book I've been looking at...which I received as a gift; the book Love Sick, which is another book filled with 1950's to 60's illustrations... and hilarious commentary on Love, Lust, and Marriage. It's a book worth adding to your collection!! Which reminds me... I should dig up my great grandmother's 1950's cook books, and post some of the illustrations ... Some of the recipes.... sound kinda gross, but the illustrations are so beautiful...
