I used the "World's Luckiest B*tch" as a design for Threadless... I wonder if it will pass... I don't really consider the "B" word to be a bad one, but ... the FCC lets you use it on tv, so i guess its ok? I took out the textures to make it more flat and screen-print friendly...

Re-writing my artist-statement let me explore alot of issues that have evolved into my work. I'll add a little excerpt of what I've got so far... (if anyone was wondering what is going through my mind when i make these pieces...)

"Strength. Weakness. Steriotype. It was the strong women in my life that always impressed me. They were the ones that I'd always looked up to-- the ones I wanted to become in this male-dominated world. What soon revealed itself to me was the path they had taken to become the strong individuals they are now. It was through these observations, and stories they told me of their lives, that I became obsessed with the role of women in society vs. what women actually wanted ... What seems to be expressed in my artwork seems to be more of the desire to be a strong individual -- a woman's definition of what is 'strong' becomes a man; to exhibit stereotypical men's roles. All while contrasted with the fact that both man and woman can never be an "ideal" emotionally strong person 100% of the time ... The conflict of wanting to be a strong person and not wanting to reveal your human weaknesses. Its these trials in life that remind us that we are human, and that we all make the same mistakes. That even our heros have weaknesses as well. "

Not sure if any of that makes sense. All I know is It's going to be very, very, VERY heavily edited, because my writing skills are very, very, rusty! Also I saw the Goldfrapp / Martha Wainwright performance at Radio City Hall (...thank you for those awesome tickets, Tim!!) ... very inspirational :) ...and I got a neato glowing stick thing!

Looking for all the wrong things, in all the wrong places...

I smell of Tiger Balm, and lots and lots of cold medicine... but during my time being sick (mostly sleeping) I managed to finish up a quick sketch of my new piece... (and then promptly pass out again). Going for the retro 1950's - 60's look and feel with this one. I think I may try to make this without a background this time, for a t-shirt design.

I like how i drew the bird's feathers like fish scales... peacock feathers always did remind me of scales though. The colors are a bit pastel-y for my taste, but I like how they work.

I got a new scanner!! :) (the old one i think i blew out something when i tried re-wiring another ac adapter to work with it... )

With a little bit of youtube inspiration, mixed in with the discovery that Zazzle.com lets you make custom shoes... well, you can imagine what I did next:

I wish I had enough money to buy these!! :( So cute! I want to make a few more... there will be other stuff (perhaps some silk ties, and a stein or two...) but theyre so expensive! I think I will still choose to create my own prints to keep costs down.

A few days ago my dog knocked over the radiator... (DONT ASK ME HOW... the guys that were hired to fix my apartment... well let's just say they have NO IDEA WHAT THE **** THEY ARE DOING) ... anyway, it smashed off the prongs on the plug... and so... my scanner can no longer be plugged in... :( Luckily, I can buy a new a/c adapter to get it working again... I just have to find the right connector!!..... (I've owned this scanner for about 4 years now -- bought it used for $25, and it's been one of THE BEST bargain's I've ever spent my money on!)

Halfway there. I decided not to re-draw, and just use as is! I have 50 billion thumbnails (well actually about 50 ) that I drew for new pieces, new compositions, new dynamics! :) will be using more for newer stuffs. I just figured my inprogress would be alot more interesting than my sketch book (which has really turned into a "SKETCH" book lately... or more of an idea book at least!).

Right as I was leaving for work this morning, I go to grab my bag and see this...! So on the train ride, I decided I NEEDED to draw it! It was so surreal.. like i was looking through the cat... some kind of weird sign maybe? haha...

And above you'll see 3 reasons why I LOVE Prospect Park. I decided to leave out the photo of my bloody knee... (you're welcome! ) I love the bike paths there! Too much fun! ... as well there's also a picture of Taco (dog) and Gyoza (cat) falling asleep during one of their nightly staring contests.... (yes they really do this every night...!)

here's a sketch i did today during lunch... decided i'd color it and see what came about! I'm not so sure about the new piece i started, though... i think maybe the lines are a bit too thick... i'm going to re-draw it... Went to the bookstore today, and saw all the winners for all those magazine contest things (like applied arts, cmyk, ect..) it really... makes me feel down!! :( oh well... at least what i do makes me happy, and i guess thats the only thing that matters!

I think i'm going to start working traditionally again... traditionally huge! I was thinking about some of the artwork I had been doing about 4 years ago... it used to be HUGE! i miss that... so.. my next drawing i think will be a MINIMUM of 4x4 feet... just to get back into the feel of making large art... :)

also! I'm kinda excited about a project i'm doing at work!! I'm helping to illustrate a book that they're publishing... yay! Although it isn't really my style (vectory, realisticy) i guess you can kinda see my taste coming through!! :) updates on it later!

time for a trip to the art store! :)

These are the things that help me get by in my day to day life... I love my sketchbook *huggles*... always there through the good and the bad! (more so during the bad!) A diary of my ups and downs, and subconscious perhaps? I've got several ideas for new pieces, as you can probably tell! :) I've been listening /watching too many old Garbage / Cardigans music videos... I have to say my favorite videos have to be "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage, and the Cardigans' "Carnival". Music has always been a very big influence on my work, and I think it will always show up in my drawings!

I know i wanted to finish this a while back, but... life stresses have really put me off. A loss of someone special, combined with moving to a new area... very overwhelming! Also... the subject matter of these recent pieces are really too close to the things that were going on in my own life... so i avoided finishing it for a while now. but THANKFULLY, i'm finally back on track and here's a preview...

I really need to go find my scanner... i have a ton of sketchbook things to post! I saw the Murakami exhibit as well (since i live right next to the museum) ...with my MOM...which was the weirdest thing ever (she said she could handle the explict sexuality/nudity part but... it was an attempt at least!--although she did like the Luis Vuitton handbags...).

I'd really like to see my illustrations on clothes... so to get a better idea, i found some (random) clothes on google, and put my images on them... *sigh*.... I know its just a daydream, but I have to figure out how to make this a reality. If any clothing designers out there are interested in collaborating... lol well you know... let me know? :) I'd love to make some artwork for you!

...on a side note... I'm moving to Brooklyn!! I'll be right next to the museum, botanical gardens, and PARK! *hugs nature* I'm so excited! :)
