I know I don't usually do fan art, but I decided why not now, instead of never? Plus her lasso is super cool. So behold! One of the very few pieces of fan art you'll ever see me draw (except if you see me at a comic con... Which I will be attending the one at MoCCA next month!)... I think for future warriors I am going to draw from more historical inspiration instead.

Including the fan art that I whipped up on a whim, Nate and I created a podcast!! We blabber on about our shared store, new products in the works, and recent random finds of the interwebs. It was pretty fun, and we definitely plan on making a series of these. Although, we got a bit hungry at the end and ended a bit earlier than we wanted...

Speaking of the 30 Day Drawing Challenge... I need to scan those... and post 'em up.. I really, really love how they turned out! I ventured into a more creepy subject matter, and different topics. It's inspired me for future pieces, and I'm so glad I participated! Also, super bummed at myself for being so lazy and not scanning these in! EyeHeart Stuff! Podcast - March 13th, 2012

Ps! In addition to the MoCCA Fest (April 28th & 29th), I will also be at the Spring Bust Craftacular on April 14th! Make sure to pencil in those dates to drop by and say hi!

Also have been playing around with pattern making and having fun just figuring out how to finally get some of my drawings on fabric finally... turned a crazy doodle into a repeat. My goal is to make some pillows and scarves out of the fabric before next month. I'll be at the Bust Spring Craftacular again with Nate Bear at the Eyeheart booth on April 14th. I'll also be at the Brooklyn Zine Fest April 15th as well as MoCCA on April 28th & 29th! Hoping the rest of the year will be just as packed as April! I do have a gallery show coming up in San Francisco in May sometime, but will post about it later as the date gets closer.

Favorite TV Show: Parks & Recreation! Initially The Office was going to win, but for the last few weeks, Parks & Recreation has kept me laughing out loud the entire show! Also, I guess after watching The Office for several years now, its nice to have a new #1 on my list!

Favorite Candy: OK. I was a bit stumped on this. I'm not really a candy person. Definitely more of a baked/fried and rolled in sugar person. But! If I had to pick a favorite candy, it would have to be Red Hots! I've loved them since I was a kid. They were the one candy nobody liked, so I'd always get to keep my friends' share of Red Hots for Halloween. I also like the tiny chewy ones. Something about super sweet chewy cinnamony-ness is addictive.

My favorite word: Lovely. And anything with L's in it for the matter... written in cursive. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that my name begins with an L, but there's just something very meditative and harmonious about drawing loop-dee-loops on a piece of paper. So, you'll see alot of my sketchbook is often "littered" with lots of L words...

My favorite animated character: Sailor Moon. Well, ok, more like my 'used to be' favorite character. I mean, deep down inside, I still have a love for her... but... it's a shameful love! I must not let anyone ever know!! (oh interwebs, you can keep my secret, cant you?). I've been obsessed with the show ever since it aired in the US. And I can say I grew out of it, but... I still own a notebook filled with fan art and lots and lots of cards and stickers. Initially, I was appalled by its girlishness, but eventually that was what actually drew me in and, I think, inspired my work. I guess in general Japanese animation has inspired a lot of my work, because it was really the first thing that made me realize that there were careers in art that could tell a dramatic love story, use crazy colors, and get away with an overuse of gradients in the background...

My favorite book character (not a movie!): OK. well I kind of cheated on this one... 99% of the books I read are generally about marketing and auto biographies, and I couldn't think of any characters that really appealed to me. Alice is one of those characters / themes that appear in almost all my pieces, and I had to draw... even though she's in a film! I couldn't resist!

One of my many best friends: I've known her since elementary school, we met the day she forced me to play "house" with my friends... She made me the "mommy" my friend the "daddy" and she was ALWAYS the "baby"... also she draws the most awesome vampires ever, and is one of the few people that have ever gotten me to read Stephen King books!

My Favorite Food: Churros, Doughnuts, and Creme Brulee! I couldent pick just one, but in general, I will eat anything fried and rolled in sugar (ELEPHANT EARS!) but these three happen to be my favorites.

Favorite Place to Be: In bed of course! Sleeping, dreaming, pretending I'm a billionaire living on a puppy refugee farm that manages to eat as many churros, doughnuts, and creme brulee--yet stay skinny without ever going to the gym... *sigh*.

Also, on a non-related note: If you like classic movies I highly suggest you to go watch Mon Oncle (1958). Sadly, I learned about it through a Hulu ad announcing that they now carry Criterion Collection films. Either way, I'm super glad I found it, its up there with Metropolis and Gilda for me. I will describe it in short (before you read it on IMDb): France in the 50's, cute stray doggies, mischievous little boys, and a FUTURISTIC MODERNIST HOUSE CONTROLLED BY BUTTONS!!!! Go watch it!

So I finally left the western hemisphere and visited Rome in Italy! Super inspiring! Took lots of pictures, and stocked up on textures for future projects... one of the few things that really amazed me were the mosaics... some of the mosaics looked like paintings, but when I zoomed in with the camera discovered it was a mosaic!! 40 foot tall mosaic made up of pieces of tile that looked to be about a quarter inch sized. I also saw lots of Etruscan and Egyptian inspired art while I was there. It was baffling to see all the obelisks scattered around the city!

It was a beautiful city, and I can't wait to visit again. The structure of the city was so different than anything I've ever seen in the States. I thought New York had too many buildings close together, but Europe really has down the whole space saving thing! Now I'm thinking about which city should be my next trip... hmm...!

Prepping some holiday themed stuff for the Bust Craftacular that Nate and I will be selling at December 10th and 11th... (well, we'll actually be there only one of the two days, but not sure which one we're on yet!) These three are hand-painted experiments for cards...  We'll also have lots of the usual prints, postcards, totes, and tee's, and a few more surprises!
